AuroraShield™ PC/ASA alloys combine polycarbonate’s toughness with ASA’s superior UV and moisture resistance, providing excellent weatherability for mirror housings, trim pieces, and exterior accents.
AuroraShield™ ASA delivers outstanding weather resistance with excellent UV, water whitening, and stress crack resistance. These grades exhibit low heat build-up, good flow, impact strength, dark color weatherability, and flame retardancy. Aurora maintains a full color development program for the automotive industry.
AuroraShield™ AES (acrylonitrile ethylene styrene) extends our weatherable terpolymer portfolio by replacing ASA’s acrylic rubber phase with saturated EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene) rubber. The fully saturated polymer backbone provides superior resistance to UV degradation, weathering, and thermal aging, making AES particularly well suited for exterior automotive parts that experience prolonged outdoor exposure like body side moldings, rocker panels, fender extensions, mirror caps, and dark-color trim where color hold is critical. AES typically delivers low-temperature impact toughness comparable to or better than ASA while maintaining excellent gloss and surface aesthetics.
AuroraShield™ PC/AES alloys pair polycarbonate’s high impact strength and heat resistance with AES’s UV and weather stability, creating a tough, weatherable engineering alloy that competes directly with PC/ASA for demanding exterior applications. PC/AES is an excellent choice for larger painted or unpainted exterior body panels, cowl vents, spoiler components, and exterior mirror housings where impact performance, dimensional stability under thermal cycling, and long-term weatherability must coexist.
